Part of storyNapoleonView in story ›

Time: Sunday Aug 16, 1812

Place: Smolensk, Russian Empire

Details: The Russians avoided Napoleon's objective of a decisive engagement and instead retreated deeper into Russia. A brief attempt at resistance was made at Smolensk in August; the Russians were defeated in a series of battles, and Napoleon resumed his advance.

Best-effort ordering. Some events may appear out of order since many are only known to the year, but they are usually around the same period.
