Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon - Tour of South Africa
Time: Saturday Feb 1, 1947
Place: South Africa
Details: On 1 February 1947, Margaret, Elizabeth, and their parents embarked on a state tour of Southern Africa. The three-month-long visit was Margaret's first visit abroad, and she later claimed that she remembered "every minute of it". Margaret's chaperone was Peter Townsend, the King's equerry and very firm toward Margaret, who he apparently considered an indulged child.
