The Open Board of Stock Brokers merged with the NYSE in 1869.

The Civil War greatly stimulated speculative securities trading in New York. By 1869, membership had to be capped and has been sporadically increased since. The latter half of the nineteenth century saw rapid growth in securities trading.

During his researches, Mendeleev discovered a dependency between the atomic number of an element and it's physical and chemical properties. So, In March 1869, Mendeleev postulated the periodic law, also called Mendeleev's law. It stated that the physical and chemical properties of the elements recur periodically when arranged in the order of their atomic weights.

In 1869, the first documented producer of rod-driven two-wheelers, treadle bicycles, was Thomas McCall, of Kilmarnock. The design was inspired by the French front-crank velocipede of the Lallement/Michaux type.
