History of Web Browsers

When speaking of Web Browsers, we generally refer to software, application or program that gives you the opportunity to access the internet in a broad and secure way. In addition, these help you in the search for information, download files, multimedia content among other functions.

The internet was created 50 years ago in 1969, since then it has constantly evolved, improving service more and more; keeping it updated and providing better experiences to its users.

The evolution of the internet through the years has made it become a necessary tool for people today.

One of the most important phases the internet has gone through during its evolution is its incorporation into different technological devices such as tablets, smartphones, consoles, among others.

Origin of the first browser and evolution

Browser is the most used software, it is even considered that of any type of program that can be installed on a computer, these will be the most useful for a person. This is because they may be able to search for information, entertainment on social networks and any type of information.

After 21 years since the birth of the internet; The first web browser (World Wide Web) was created and it was not until 1993 with the creation of Mosaic that it became a popular tool.

Currently, there are a large number of browsers available, which have different tools accessible to different types of users depending on their needs.

That is why we will talk a bit about the evolution of browsers over time and their importance.

World Wide Web

This was the first browser created in 1990 by Tim Berners-Lee who was also the creator of WWW. Although many users did not consider World wide web a browser even though it had a platform that identified it as one.

NCSA Mosaic

Then Mosaic positioned itself as the first Browser in history due to the popularity it achieved in a short time, this was created by Marc Andreessen and Eric Bina. It was from 1994 that Mosaic lost users, until 5 years after its launch it completely disappeared from the market.

Netscape

This step became the most used browser in the 90s because of the fact that it offered a free multiplatform and its arrival was the endpoint for Mosaic due to its great popularity.

This application constantly provided users with new versions that allowed more complex functions to be experienced; but nevertheless, with the appearance of Windows 95 and its first browser; Internet Explorer, Netscape was losing popularity until leaving the market.

Internet explorer

It was born in August 1995 based mainly on Mosaic, it was created due to the great success that Netscape achieved, so Windows launched Internet Explorer 1 to thereby become number 1 in the market in a short time. As with other applications, as time passed and new browsers appeared, popularity was gradually lost.

Mozilla Firefox

It is when Firefox was born in 2002, just at the best moment of Internet Explorer, the appearance of this program caused it to quickly lose popularity and Firefox quickly gained popularity. However, Firefox never managed to completely remove Internet Explorer from the market, but they were the same most of the time, each offering different features to users.

Opera

This research started as a project in a telecommunications company and over time it was transformed. And it was so, as after several tests in 1998 when Opera had great momentum, launching itself as the first browser for mobile devices. That is how Opera together with Firefox became one of the main parallel options to Microsoft.

Safari

The launch of this browser was in 2003, it has had great success with iOS devices, but its use is limited only for Apple. From 2015 onwards it has constantly presented new versions in its operating system, which offers the user an updated program with the fewest possible errors.

Google Chrome

It was launched in 2008 and quickly achieved great success being created by Google (Alphabet.inc) and considered one of the best on the market today. Obtaining approximately 50% of users in the world in terms of use; this is due to its great user interface and ease of experience in the world of the internet.

Baidu

This Chinese web browser surprised me with two things: very smooth operation on the not very smart Huawei MediaPad X1 7 (although it did not stand out on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 in this regard among other browsers) and the presence of its own T5 engine. The latter is installed as an option when you first start the application, and if you abandon it, then the browser will work on the basis of Webkit.

Yandex

Yandex Browser, unlike the beloved Chrome, offers more options for those who like customization. To begin with, it uses a new interface called Cousteau. It supports translucency of elements, placement of tabs at the top or bottom, color tabs that adjust to the color of the viewed page.

By default, Yandex Browser has many handy features that can be implemented in other web browsers only with the help of additional extensions. For example, built-in contextual translator and currency converter. But I especially liked the Help Tooltip that explains the meaning of the highlighted word.

What is the browser most used today?

After being Internet Explorer and Firefox one of the best web browsers in terms of use on the market, Google Chrome displaces them, becoming the most widely used currently, according to a variety of statistics that demonstrate this.

The main reason for this is that Chrome has a wide variety of excellent tools, in addition to its incredible speed, which places it among one of the fastest browsers on the market with a fairly simple interface to use.

Even so, Microsoft continues working to achieve a faster and more attractive browser that has higher popularity with users.

Similarly, Safari also continues to rectify the good performance it has especially on Apple devices, which makes Safari the second most used browser currently followed by Mozilla Firefox.

As time goes by, the updates of the Browser can cause any change in the statistics of popularity and use, which is why each company works to push its application to place it in the number one place in the market day by day.
